The boys worked together to find things so they can get help. Ralph had the common sense and education he would need in order to figure out the main problem on the island. Jack had common sense as in hunting and being physical for areas in which some of the boys needed.

In Lord of the Flies, the conch symbolized order, and encourage the boys to have respect and pace for each other. Ralph is a great head of commander because he do not think like a kid. Jack uses the fear of the beast to manipulate the boys into thinking that he will protect them, making him becoming the stronger and respected leader.

To become a leader, you need to be able to convince your audience that they should be able to feel fear. Jack needs the boys to believe in him and believe in his leadership abilities so that is why he creates the idea that the beast is real and it exists. The boys believe Jack when he tells then that it does exist and they rely upon him to tell them any information about the beast.
