How do i cook tempeh

It is much less processed than tofu. For many, the unadulterated flavour is somewhat difficult, a combination of nuts and mushrooms with an underpinning of bitterness and perhaps also a challenging cheesiness.

If tempeh needs to be cooked before being eaten, it should be steamed, boiled or fried for at least 20 minutes. Tempeh can be the basis of a meal, after marinating or being added to something like a vegetable stew, giving both bulk and protein; there are very few flavours with which it will not marry.

Otherwise it is a useful side dish — again marinated, perhaps with Asian flavourings and ingredients — or sprinkled as a last-minute addition in small cubes to ensure good protein content in a vegetarian or vegan meal. Liquid smoke — A great ingredient to have on hand for making any vegan bacon recipe, or smoked turkey style vegan cold cuts. Garlic and onion powder — Both are technically optional, but I love the depth of flavor they add. They make the marinade even more savory.

Olive oil — You can use any neutral-tasting vegetable oil. This helps the sauce to coat the tempeh and caramelize into a beautiful, delicious glaze.

It can be made on the stove in one pan. Unwrap the tempeh and slice it into strips. Alternatively, you can cut the tempeh into cubes or steaks. You can even crumble it to make bacon bits to top salads. Any shape is fine. Combine all the marinade ingredients in a medium-sized skillet. Give them a quick stir, then add in your tempeh slices and stir to coat them with the marinade.
