Which beach to stay in phuket

Near Rawai — and far nicer — the cute beach at Nai Harn is home to a monastery, yacht club, and the wonderful Nai Harn Resort. A great value 4-star hotel close to shopping, nightlife, and the beach. South of Karon see below are the attractive twin coves of Kata Yai Big Kata and Kata Noi Little Kata , both agreeably distant from the main road and ideal for swimming, snorkeling, and scuba-diving. Much bigger, Kata Yai offers many likable boutique hotels and mid-range resorts, but none face the beach which is commandeered by the Club Med resort — although all beaches in Phuket are open to the public.

About half a mile south across the steep headland from Kata Yai is the more petite and scenic Kata Noi with limited facilities which mainly cater to the handful of upmarket resorts there.

Karon is the next region south of Patong and also only a short distance from Kata see above. Not nearly as lively and busy as either, the beach at Karon is extended but misguided efforts to beautify the area, e. The usual water sports are available, including surfing, and the range of resorts is fantastic. Many are ideal for families, but some of these are at least half a mile from the beach.

Located along the glistening west coast, Patong is the most popular, crowded, and in famous region in Phuket. The broad and sheltered 2-mile-long stretch of sandy beach is ideal for swimming and water sports, but undertows can be strong, so always swim between the flags. Patong is mostly renowned for its shopping and nightlife. The number of hotels here is incredible, but there are very few major resorts.

And note: only a handful of hotels actually face the beach and busy esplanade , many are half a mile or more from the sea, and most in the budget range are not recommended.

About halfway along the west coast and peacefully distant from Patong, Bang Tao is a large area of mostly 4 and 5-star resorts accessible via a convoluted series of roads. The beach is extended and uncrowded, and guests not lazing by the pool or sea can enjoy massages and water sports offered at any of the resorts. Accommodations also include numerous villas, homes, and apartments owned by individuals, so the quality of these can vary enormously. Accommodation is available in the nearby small town which has a variety of high-end shops and boutiques.

If you fancy some casual celebrity spotting, then Surin is the place for you. The beach is gorgeous and if you can afford the place, then you will enjoy total relaxation here. It is quiet at night and you will be surrounded by many wealthy travellers. If you are a budget traveller then it goes without saying that this is not the place for you.

There are very few attractions in the area, apart from lounging on the beach and eating in the many restaurants your super luxurious hotel offers. This property is 4 minutes walk from the beach.

A great mid-range hotel option right next to Surin. Each room has a private balcony, DVD player, a refrigerator and an electric kettle. Located m from Surin Beach, Twinpalms features spacious accommodation offering private terraces with lagoon pool views.

Bangtao is a very interesting place in Phuket. It is the second longest beach, a relatively quiet destination with some beach clubs and excellent restaurants. The interesting thing about Bangtao is the placement of the hotels. You have the Southern part of the beach which has various budget accommodation options. The northern side is quite underdeveloped, although you will find some luxury properties on the hills.

Even though there is some budget accommodation available, Bangtao is the place for wealthy travellers in search of luxury escapades. You will find first-class restaurants and you will be able to enjoy some of the best beach clubs.

The beach is long and beautiful and you have access to everything in one place. You can enjoy luxury modern Thai style rooms, a pool and spa. Did you like this article? This comprehensive guide on the best areas to stay in Phuket will help you make the right choice, based on your tastes and preferences.

Patong is the busiest and most commercial area in Phuket. Patong Beach is a pleasant stroll away. Besides, it gives you easy access to more beautiful beaches like Karon and Kata in the south, or Kamala and Laem Sing in the south. Being the most touristy part of Phuket, it can be quite crowded and overwhelming at times.

The traffic at peak hours is quite intense. Undoubtedly the heart of all nightlife action in Phuket, Central Patong is the busiest part of Phuket. A mellow street by day, it becomes a carnival of neon-lit bars, deafening music and cheap alcohol at night. If you want to let loose and party every night, there cannot be a better place to stay.
